MEPR is a body of the executive power, responsible for the state policy in the field of environmental protection, ecological, radiation, biological and genetic safety, fisheries and fishing industry, protection, use and reproduction of aquatic biological resources.

MEPR is the key Ukrainian stakeholder in the fight against climate change and leads political dialogue on this topic in Ukraine.
- Ministry is working on:
- Developing methods for determining damage to the environment
- Adaptation of national environmental legislation to EU requirements.
- Conducting negotiations with other countries in order to get access to international environmental finance, develop mechanisms for regulating GHG emissions
- ETS reform
- NDC, including financing plan and necessary updates of NDC and its action plans
- COP preparation and participation
- Implements majority Climate Related ITA projects
- Environmental and climate related strategic documents, covering eco-security and adaptation to climate change
MRV system for GHG emissions at industrial enterprises level
