The District Heating Energy Efficiency Project
Description
The World Bank Group is the largest multilateral sponsor of climate investment in developing countries and it intends to go further, helping countries reduce poverty and face the challenges of climate change.
The main task of the WB is to contribute to the development of countries by investing in various sectors, including energy and climate. In addition to investing in the development of countries, the World Bank annually conducts research that helps assess the potential consequences of climate change.
For example, in February 2022, a new World Bank report “Ukraine: Increasing the resilience of agriculture and forestry to climate change” was published. This report is the first detailed assessment of the potential consequences of climate change for Ukraine.
The project development objective is to improve the energy efficiency and quality of service of selected Ukrainian district heating(DH) companies, improve their financial viability and decrease their CO2 emissions. The global objective is to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through avoided heat generation by improving heat generation efficiency, reducing heat losses in DH transmission and distribution systems, and reducing residential heat consumption.
