Activities of International Organization for Migration (IOM)
Description
IOM provides a comprehensive response to the humanitarian needs of migrants, internally displaced persons, returnees and host communities through humanitarian direct assistance, and development activities.
Through its Migration, Environment and Climate Change Division IOM:
- oversees, supports and coordinates the development of policy guidance on activities related to migration, environment and climate change
- provides assistance and protection to the affected population when forced migration actually takes place in the context of environmental and climate change
- promotes migration in the context of adaptation to climate change and increases the resilience of affected communities
IOM cooperates with Ukraine in the field of adaptation to climate change. Currently, IOM is conducting a study of Ukrainian legislation to take into account the connection between migration, climate change and the ecological situation, how the environment itself affects the desire to change one’s place of residence.
