Paving the way to establishing an effective Emissions Trading System (ETS) in Ukraine
On February 8, 2024, an expert discussion was held to discuss international experience to further establish an effective Emissions Trading System (ETS) in Ukraine with the participation of representatives of the MEPR, project representatives and experts in the field of climate policy, the public and other stakeholders in the process. The participants discussed the creation of market mechanisms and instruments to combat climate change, and representatives of international technical assistance projects shared their experience in creating effective ETS in other countries.
On February 8, 2024, an expert discussion was held to discuss international experience to further establish an effective Emissions Trading System (ETS) in Ukraine with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, project representatives and experts in the field of climate policy, the public and other stakeholders in the process. The participants discussed the creation of market mechanisms and instruments to combat climate change, and representatives of international technical assistance projects shared their experience in creating effective ETS in other countries.
In addition, they discussed reforming carbon taxation to support decarbonization measures, as well as options for minimizing CBAM and other climate finance opportunities. The participants agreed on the importance of involving business in the ETS policy-making process to ensure predictability of the activities and effective preparation for the implementation of the future system. The event will result in recommendations for Ukrainian government.
The event is jointly organized by the MEPR, the Ukrainian Climate Office within the framework of the Capacity for Climate Action (C4CA) project and the Low Carbon Ukraine project.
